In 1988, three Irish bookmakers merged to form Paddy Power. Paddy Power is now Ireland’s largest bookmaker and has a strong Internet presence. Online it offers bingo games, casino games, poker and sports betting. Offline it operates primarily as a sports book through a chain of licensed betting offices as well as over the telephone.
Paddy Power has built a name for itself internationally by offering controversial odds. One recent example is 16-1 odds that President Obama would not finish his first term, interpreted by some as the odds of his assassination.
